PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To lecture undergraduate and honours modules in Physics. Carry out research in one of the Departmental research focus areas: Astrophysics/Space Science/Astronomy
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
TEACHING
- Facilitate and administer the learning process for students in physics modules presented by the North West University at undergraduate and post-graduate levels.
- Review and design academic curricula.
RESEARCH
- Preference will be given to Stellar Astrophysics/Exo-Planet Research.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
- Contribute to community engagement and be involved in the departmental administrative functions
Minimum requirements
- An honours degree (NQF level 8) in Space Science & Astrophysics.
- A minimum of one (1) year teaching experience.
ADDED ADVANTAGES & PREFERENCES:
- At least 3 publications in peer reviewed with at least 1 as first author.
- Participation in local or international conferences.
- Enrollment for MSc in Physics.
- Must be registered with South African Institute of Physics (SAIP).
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Effective lecturing of undergraduate and post-graduate physics theory courses at university level.
- The ability to carefully analyse information and use logic to address issues and problems at work.
- Ability to work under pressure and against tight deadlines.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Preferably the knowledge to use a telescope.
- Good programming skills.
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
- The ability to adhere to rules and strictly follow work regulations.
- The ability to be cooperative with others, display a good-natured attitude, and encourage people to work together.
- The ability to be sensitive and understanding to the needs and feelings of others
REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
