PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The NWU School of Music (Potchefstroom campus) seeks to appoint one new member of staff (Junior Lecturer) to assume teaching, research and performance responsibilities. Candidates with an academic background and voice performance / voice pedagogy experience in Western Classical Voice are invited to apply.
Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.      Teaching & Learning:
  •  Theoretical modules
  • Performance modules
  • Moderation/examination
  •  Study guide & / study material development
  • Conservatory students
  • T&L strategy development & expansion
  •  Marketing of T&L expertise.
2.      Research:
  • Research outputs (articles, creative outputs, conference proceedings, books etc.).
  • Postgraduate supervision
  • Postgraduate performance collaboration.
  • Development & expansion of research skills.
  • Participation in external research community.
3.      Performance:
  • Performance: Solo & ensemble (public concerts & recordings).
  •  Activities facilitating performances.
 
4.      Strategic tasks:
  • Strategic positioning
  • Under-& postgraduate committees.
  • Marketing and student recruitment.
5.      Community Engagement:
  • Community engagement using music as an instrument of social reform.

Minimum requirements

·        An Honours degree in Music – voice performance and / or voice pedagogy
·        Evidence of excellence in voice performance and / or pedagogy
·        Demonstrate a knowledge of Western Art operatic and art song performance practices and styles
·        Demonstrate proficiency in lyric diction specifically Italian, German, and French
·        Research competencies and the ability to present own research on a variety of public platforms

RECOMMENDED COMPETENCIES:
·     Experience and the ability to teach stage craft (recommendation)
·     Advanced computer skills
·       Demonstration of multilingual language proficiency in order to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU.
 

            KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
·        Excellent interpersonal skills.
·        Goal-oriented and systematic in her / his approach.

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
