Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION/INTRODUCTION.
At the NWU Business School, we shape executive minds in Africa. We want our students to become manager-leaders and to walk away with real-world skills from an internationally accredited institution. As an autonomous school within the university, we offer programs that are relevant to our students who are developing managers and executives in the South African industry. We provide opportunities to expand, explore and evolve in the world of business and entrepreneurship.
We are seeking applications for a candidate with a background in Data-driven Decision Making, Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Natural language processing or Machine Learning. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and supervising students in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Executive Education programs, conducting cutting-edge research, and engaging in service to the university and wider community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teaching & Learning
· Innovative Teaching & Learning (incl. Curriculum Development) that will contribute to the vision of the Business School.
2. Postgraduate Supervision
· Providing high-quality supervision to Postgraduate students in fields related to Business & Leadership challenges because of digital transformation in an aim to achieve responsible management.
3. Research
· Research & Publication in fields related to Business & Leadership challenges because of digital transformation in an aim to achieve responsible management.
4. Community Engagement
· Community Engagement and Thought Leadership on current developments in (digital) technology, forge and maintain internal and external professional networks.
Minimum requirements
SENIOR LECTURER:
· PhD in any relevant field, such as Business Administration, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
· Five (5) years of experience in an excellent teaching portfolio at a reputable Higher Education Institution, preferably in the business school context.
· Five (5) years of experience in supervision, research and publications, and teaching experience on digital transformation or related topics.
· Two (2) years of experience in developing programme outcomes and module content at PhD, MBA, PGDM and Executive Development Levels.
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR:
· PhD in Any relevant field, such as Business Administration, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
· Ten (10) years of experience in an excellent teaching portfolio at a reputable Higher Education Institution, preferably in the business school context.
· Ten (10) years of experience in Supervision, research and publications, and teaching experience on digital transformation or related topics
· Five (5) years of experience in developing programme outcomes and module content at PhD, MBA, PGDM and Executive Development Levels.
ADDED ADVANTAGES/PREFERANCES
· MBA in Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Project Management, or General management.
· Two (2) years Industry-related experience (preferably working in, or consulting with start-ups) for Senior Lecturer.
· Five (5) years Industry-related experience (preferably working in, or consulting with start-ups) for Associate Professor.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
· Clear evidence of strength in teaching and learning in a blended environment and research and innovation activity.
· Knowledge, skills, and practical experience in the field of Data-driven Decision Making, Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Natural language processing, or Machine Learning.
· Excellent problem-solving skills.
· Demonstrated a high standard of interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment.
· Demonstrated language skills (in English and at least one other official South African Language) to function optimally within the multi-lingual environment of the NWU.
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
· Have excellent people and conflict resolution skills.
· Can apply time management and work independently (on their own and without supervision).
· Must be able to work well in a group.
· Demonstrate initiative and leadership in research and teaching and learning.
· The ability to maintain effective and constructive interpersonal relationships, as well as to motivate and persuade others to be effective, efficient, achieve agreed goals timely, behave harmoniously, and become or remain interdependent.
· A clear vision, effective, clear, and timely two-way communication, strong results and people orientation, instilling trust, driving diversity, transformation, and ethics, and managing conflict proactively.
