Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Scholarly work (Research & Innovation)
  •   Publication record and clear evidence of agenda for continued research in the field of Corporate Communication and Communication Management.
  •   Participation in research projects with colleagues.
  •   Expected to continue furthering personal study – pursue PhD in Communication.
 Study guidance (Postgraduate supervision)
  •   Provide study guidance to graduate students on an Honours and Masters level.
 Teaching & Learning
  •  Teach introductory and advanced level courses to a diverse student body, including skills as well as specialty courses in Corporate Communication.
  •   Teach general communication courses.
  •   Teach emerging visual communication courses.
  •   Bring enthusiasm and strong pedagogy to teaching; engage in a practical, hands-on program of teaching; and provide strong mentoring to students.
  •   Provide curricular leadership in the Corporate Communication program.
  •   Engage in Scholarly and subject-related case studies.
  •   Provide service to the Institution.
  •   Provide service to the Community.
 Curriculum development
  •  Contribute to curricular revision to reflect the latest trends in the field, and to build and expand the Corporate Communication subject group across all campuses.
 Administration and other tasks
  •   Responsible for all administrative tasks with regard to the above.
  •   Study guide development and update.
  •   Student marks and assessment.
  •   Share responsibility for committee and department assignments as required.
  •   Participate in services related to the life of the School and the community.

Minimum requirements

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  •    A Master’s degree (NQF level 9) in Communication with specialisation in Corporate Communication (or related fields such as Communication Management, Marketing Communication, Strategic Communication, Public Relations, Integrated Communication, etc.).
  •    A proven research profile of publications or publications in process.
 EXPERIENCE:
  •    A minimum of 3 years’ Teaching and Learning experience with undergraduate, honours or masters students.
  •    A minimum of 3 years’ practical experience as a Corporate Communication specialist.
  •    Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Visual communication and design.
  •    Minimum of 3 years’ experience in New media.
 ADDED ADVANTAGE:
  •    Registered/active membership with SACOMM.
 FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS)
  •    Knowledge of the higher education environment.
  •    Knowledge of industry-related environments.
  •    Sound understanding of the broad Corporate Communication discipline.
 BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES
  •    Team player within groups.
  •    Sound relations with colleagues.
  •    Able to work independently.
  •    Ethical principles and academic integrity.
