NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) FACULTY/ DIVISION: CENTRE FOR TEACHING & LEARNING POSITION NUMBER: N002897 VACANCY: LEARNING TECHNOLOGIST PEROMNES GRADE: 11 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The incumbent must be able to conceptualise and execute a concept course design on the Learning Management System as part of the design and development team and in collaboration with subject experts.
Job description

1.    Development of learning designs in an online environment to enhance the learning experience of students and to assist lecturers with the integration of T & L strategies
·         Consult with academic staff and design and develop team to ascertain educational needs.
·         Liaise with development team to create and/or assemble site specific content.
·         Integration and implementation of relevant technologies based on sound educational principles.
·         Editing, updating and formatting of online (LMS) material.
·         Troubleshooting and problem solving during the development of the online course experiences.
·         Proactive in identifying and implementing solutions during end user support
2.    Staff and student development and support regarding the effective implementation of the T&L environment at the NWU.
Participate in Academic Professional Development at the NWU by:
·         Presenting/facilitating work sessions on teaching with technology at the NWU.
·         Participate in developing training material for the T & L environment of the NWU (both physical & virtual);
·         Perform a second-line support to staff and students regarding supported T&L technologies at the NWU
3.    Participate in T&L Technology innovation Projects to design and develop (and enhance) an enabling Digital T&L Environment - according to the adoption and integration lifecycle of the DTLE at the NWU.
Projects to be determined in Faculty plans, participate in project teams to collaborate on:
·         Adoption of new technologies within the Digital T&L Environment of the NWU with the aim to integrate into the NWU technology ecosystem.
·         The enhancement of existing technologies within the NWU T&L environment (virtual and physical).
·         Development of best practice guidelines regarding Technology Enhanced T&L at the NWU
4.    Ad Hoc
·         Complete ad hoc tasks as handed down by line manager
5.    Personal Development
·         Keep up to date with regards to new Teaching and Learning technologies, design techniques and theories.

Minimum requirements

·         B Degree in Education/ equivalent qualification/ relevant qualification
·         Honours Degree in Education/ equivalent qualification/ relevant qualification
·         1-2 years’ experience in Basic Web Design (HTML, CSS)
·         2 years Educational experience and background
·         2 years’ experience in a content or LMS environment

 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·         HTML 5, CSS-basic understanding
·         Adobe Suite
·         Development of Course Material in a Learning Management System
·         Basic Web Design
·         Educational experience and background: for example, tutoring and mentoring, SI, Teaching assistants

KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Must be able to work as part of a team
·         Language (Professional) speak, read & write
·         Willingness to develop new competencies and skills
·         Good listening skills
·         Must be able to articulate other people’s ideas
 
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
