Introduction
NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (MAHIKENG CAMPUS) FACULTY/ DIVISION: THEOLOGY POSITION NUMBER: P000186 VACANCY: LECTURER PEROMNES GRADE: A8 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The person to be appointed in this position is responsible to teach primarily in the field of Old Testament Studies (and cognate fields like Semitic Languages) to undergraduate students in the relevant BTh programs. The person needs at least a qualification in Old Testament on NQF level 9 (masters degree). Knowledge and experience in another theological discipline within the African context will be a recommendation. On postgraduate level, the position requires that the person to be appointed equips students with critical skills in order to, 1) understand recent developments in the field of Old Testament and African theologies or theologies in Africa, and 2) subsequently contribute to research in the fields. Evidence of published research will therefore be recommended.
Job description

1.    Teaching and Learning
·         Teaching a range of Old Testament subfields on undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
·         Additional teaching content as required by department from time to time, in another theological discipline.
2.    Research
·         Demonstrate continuous research activity in line with the strategic planning of the chosen research entity.
3.    Community engagement
·         Be able to link teaching and research to meaningful engagement with the community in a context of choice.

Minimum requirements

·         Masters degree in Old Testament.
·         Membership in relevant scholarly societies.
·         3 years’ experience of teaching in tertiary context.

ADDED ADVANTAGE & PREFERENCES:
·         Honours in another theological discipline.
·         2 years’ experience in guidance of post graduate students.
·         2 years’ experience in research output.
 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Should function in accordance with the NWU teaching/learning and research policies within the faculty, including the willingness and ability to contribute to the focus of the faculty on Reformed theology.
·         Should make contributions to current subject knowledge on national and later international levels.
·         Should be able and willing also to teach in another field(s) of theological study, if required.
·         The candidate should be able to handle typical academic administration (meetings, marks, study material) effectively.
·         Appropriate IT knowledge and skills, and willing to undergo further training in this regard.
·         Be able to accept work from different academics within the scope of the core task.

KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Ability to contribute to good relations among staff members in the faculty.
·         Should be able to work in a team setup with regard to teaching, administrative duties and research.
·         Candidate should respect the foundation of the faculty on the theology stemming from the Reformation, while be willing to assist in promoting the faculty’s theological inclusiveness.
·         Be able to build a good report with the students and act as inspirational role model.
 
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
