PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The School of Government Studies is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Political Science and International Relations. We are looking for a candidate who specialises and is an experienced senior political scientist in core areas of Political Theory, Political Economy, and Political Inquiry (Research Methodology).

Teaching & administering of examination of allocated modules
- Research & Innovation
To be able to publish Journal articles in DHET accredited journals or Scopus indexed journals
- Community Engagement
Effective participation in community development projects.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Possess a depth or breadth of specialist knowledge demonstrated in academic area of the core knowledge relating to political science in order to teach and support learning on political science courses modules
- Practical administrative experience and experience in teaching of comparative politics will be an added advantage.
- Consistent track record of excellent teaching across a variety of modules and levels within political science discipline, with a PhD degree in political science.
- Possesses four years of post-qualification experience at the University level and teaching experience and show evidence of scholarship as attested to by publications (at least four journal articles) in academic journals in the field of political science, including supervision of honours and master students. Supervision of PhD students would serve as an advantage
- Involvement in community engagement initiatives would be a requirement
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
- Evidence of publication in reputable journals and conference proceedings.
- Supervising of honours, Masters and doctoral candidates and teaching undergraduate students
- Projecting the good image of the department in terms of recruiting students and maintaining relations with local stakeholders
- Representing the department in different committee or administrative meetings of the faculty and school of government studies
- Excellent scholarly publications in mainstream journals in Political Science and have an impressive record in postgraduate supervision.
Minimum requirements
- Ph.D. degree in Political science is essential.
- Member with AAPS/ SAAPS is desirable
EXPERIENCE
- 3 years functional experience in teaching and learning is essential
- 2 years research experience is essential
- 2 years community involvement is essential
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
