Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The nGAP is a position which has been earmarked by the Department of Higher Education to ensure that there is recruitment of newly graduated incumbents who meets the requirements for tertiary education to be recruited to ensure that there is sustainability of the sector in the country by training new academics.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaching and learning – The conduct of tutorials, practical classes, workshops. Initiation and development of subject material. Development of course material with appropriate advice from and support of more senior employees. Marking and assessment. Consultation of students. The preparation and delivery of lectures and seminars. Teaching activities include initiation and development of unit materials and may include the supervision of honours students.
- Research – Supervision of major honours research projects. The conduct of research. Pursuing his/her PhD studies, attending research workshops, writing for publications, attending conferences.
- Community Engagement- Activities / Projects in the community
Minimum requirements
- MCom/MPhil degree in Transport Economics/ Logistics Management / Supply Chain Management or closely related. The Master’s degree must be achieved with an average of 70% or above.
- Undertake a PhD study and successfully complete it within the prescribed 6-years period.
- Must be SA citizen and 40 years or younger
- 1-2 years’ experience in the particular subject group, Applicants to show evidence of independence and imitative in research, applied or creative work, Sound practical experience to lead students in work integrated learning is desirable.
- 1-year experience teaching at tertiary level will be an added advantage
- Proof of academic results to be attached
Essential Competencies:
- Knowledge and in depth understanding of transport economics, logistics management and supply chain management.
- Ability to teach basic transport economics and logistics management modules
- Knowledge in transport economics and management theories
- Ability to supervise honours research projects
- Ability to conduct basic and applied research in the fields of transport economics and logistic managements.

- Good interpersonal relations and client-service orientation
- Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various functionally multilingual environments of the NWU.
- The ability to function well individually and as part of a team/subject group

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
