VACANCY: ATTORNEY.
POSITION NUMBER: PF 02565.
The position is essential for the delivery of legal services to minor children in the North-West Province. The position is being funded in terms of an agreement entered into between the Faculty of Law and Legal Aid South Africa. The appointment is made for a fixed-term period of 12 months.
Job description
Responsibilities:
- Legal services (primary responsibility)
- Community engagement
- Monitor work-integrated-learning and service learning by students
- Present practical classes in the Legal Practice module (IURI 472) and the Law Clinic modules (IURE 416 and IURE 426)
- Committee work
- Project leader of the Child Justice Unit of the Potchefstroom Law Clinic
- Cooperate with management, OHS officials and colleagues to help everyone meet their legal requirements, whilst upholding and maintaining general occupational health and safety standards and practices
Minimum requirements
Minimum requirements:
- LLB
- Admitted legal practitioner of the High Court of South Africa
Other competency requirements:
- Legal language skills
- Basic research skills
- Computer literacy in MS Word and Office, as well as email, internet and electronic retrieval of legal sources
- Good communication skills (verbal and written)
- Good interpersonal relations
- The ability to accommodate multiculturalism
- Demonstration of language proficiency in order to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU
Recommendations:
- Completion of B.A / B.Com with area of specialisation in law
- Completion of LLM (Masters in Law)
- Completion of the 6 months Practical Legal Training of the Law Society of South Africa / Legal Education and Development
- Community engagement
- Experience in Children’s Court matters
Total remuneration package: Market related
