PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To assist in the Financial Reporting function as required as a sub-division of Governance, Reporting, and Treasury. This mainly includes the preparation and compilation of financial reports.

JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Year-end, mid-year, quarterly, monthly, and daily procedures
· Assist in the preparation of Annual Financial Statements (AFS), management statements and related reports (including Earmarked Grants).
· Assist in writing reports and formulating graphs.
· Conduct data collection and ensure processing thereof as needed to prepare required financial statements and reports.
· Perform data maintenance and compile journals
· Responsible for the reconciliation of Payroll and General Ledger.
2. Reconciliations
· Prepare monthly reconciliations for control and audit purposes.
3. Enquiries and liaison
· Assist end-users with General Ledger related inquiries.
4. Related parties
· Conduct data collection from external parties and perform related record-keeping transactions.
5. Ad-Hoc assignments
· Ensure successful execution of assignments as received from the Director or Senior Accountant: Governance, Reporting & Treasury.
· Compliance with NWU policies, standards, procedures and guidelines in support of the Institutional Plan.
· Act as back-up for the Senior Accountant.
6. Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)
· Compliance with COVID-19 protocol.
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.

Minimum requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
· B. Com degree or equivalent (NQF7) specialising in Accounting
· Three (3) years’ experience in financial systems and financial reporting.
ADDED ADVANTAGE & PREFERENCES:
· Completed articles would be favourable – including IFRS knowledge and application.
· Preferable knowledge/qualification in Information systems.
· Experience in a University environment would be an added advantage.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
· Computer literacy (MS Office as well as email).
· Advanced Excel proficiency / Information systems-level III – application skills e.g. VLOOKUP, PIVOT TABLES, GRAPHICS etc.
· Proven knowledge of basic financial principles.
· Demonstrate language proficiency in order to function optimally in the multilingual environment of the NWU – Afrikaans and English – write and speak.
· Excellent communication, writing and numeracy skills – attention to detail.
· Ability to prioritise and manage time effectively in order to handle workload/pressure and strictly meet continuous deadlines.
· Ability to multi-task effectively whilst delivering accurate and complete end results with minimum supervision.
