Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
This position will provide support within the Agriculture subject group


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
·         Monitoring of safety measures and equipment in laboratories, as well as during field work
·         Providing assistance with laboratory and field work for research purposes
·         Preparation of materials and instrumentation for hands-on teaching and assistance during practical contact sessions
·         Maintenance of all laboratory and field instrumentation used for undergraduate practical contact sessions
·         Ensuring maintenance of all laboratory and field instrumentation used for undergraduate practical contact sessions
·         Providing support during field mapping and excursions
·         Providing general administrative duties which includes but is not limited to:
-      Facility Management (Greenhouse and others)
-      Organizing upkeep of facilities
-      Obtaining of quotations and acquisition of equipment and consumables

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
·         BA degree in Agriculture or related qualification
·         3 years’ experience in Agriculture related activities
·         3 years’ experience in Agriculture Research related activities

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Ability to perform general maintenance tasks
·         Effective time management
·         Good project management skills
 
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
·           Ability to function under pressure
·           Ability to work in a team
·           Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
