Job description

  • Ensure that specified outcomes of the project are achieved
  • Continuously monitor the implementation of the project together with the IKSDC coordinator
  • Respond to any issues that have the potential implications for the IKSDC and / or realization of the project outcomes
  • Provide the IKSDC Coordinator with regular progress reports on the implementation plan
  • Verify data collected by the IK recorders to ensure trustworthiness, reliability, and validity
  • Engage with the communities on all aspects relating to the project. Coordination of community activities (monitoring and evaluation, handling requests and issues) and engagement with other stakeholders
  • Conduct synchronization of community knowledge to IKSDC machines. Ensure proper care and maintenance on the IKSDC machines

Minimum requirements

  • A minimum of a Matric / Grade 12
  • Qualification in Indigenous Knowledge Systems will be an added advantage
  • Excellent verbal and written skills (English), Good report writing skills
  • Knowledge and experience in office administration and management, computer literacy such as Microsoft applications, basic understanding of indigenous knowledge Systems (IKS) policies, legislation and procedures
  • Understanding of the Promotion, Protection, Development and Management of Indigenous Knowledge Act 06 of 2019.
  • Understanding of community development and stakeholder relations.
  • Fluency in English and any other African language (preferably Setswana)
  • A basic understanding of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) and experience in documenting heritage will be an added advantage. 
  • Good communication (verbal and written) skills, time management, planning and organizing, negotiation, presentation, responsibility, well-presented, professional and experience of working with IK holders, practitioners, indigenous leaders and local communities.

EXPERIENCE
  • 1 - 2 years coordination / research experience, research on community projects related to indigenous knowledge systems, development, and / or heritage
  • Demonstrated abilities in managing databases and report writing. Management, administrative and strong communication skills

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
