Job description

The purpose of this position is to provide a general and subject-specific information service to library users, including in-depth assistance to postgraduate students, researchers and academic staff; to provide instruction and assistance in identifying, evaluating, and interpreting appropriate information sources to become independent information users; to market library services and sources; to identify and recommend relevant information sources for acquisition in collaboration with academic staff, to support research, teaching and learning.  Assists the manager in managing staff in the section.
 
Responsibilities
·       Provide general and advanced Information services to students, postgraduate students, researchers, support staff and academic staff
·       Provide information literacy skills to library users
·       Create and maintain LibGuide
·       Liaison with academic staff, undergraduate, postgraduate students, support staff and researchers
·       Supervision and develop subordinates
·       Assists the manager in managing staff in the section.
·       Marketing of library services
·       Maintain quality control
·       Maintain usage statistics for reporting purposes
·       Manage the Teaching and Learning and Research Commons
·       Benchmark library services internally and externally
·       Administrative duties
·       Collection development and maintenance

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
·       B.LIS., B.Inf. or a B.-degree plus a postgraduate qualification in Information Science
·       At least 3 years of service to academic users on different levels
·       Membership to LIASA

Additional Information Sciences qualifications.

Other competency requirements
·       Extensive knowledge of printed and electronic sources as well as the search logic thereof
·       Advanced level of computer literacy with sound knowledge of MS Office, Groupwise and web technology
·       Knowledge of the latest developments regarding information technology, open access publishing and digitization
·       Knowledge of and insight into the academic structure and research activities on the campus
·       Research and analytical skills
·       The ability to liaise with assigned academic departments on all library matters
·       Demonstration of language proficiency in order to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU
·       Strong inclination towards client services
·       Good judgement and decision making skills
·       Good presentation and report writing skills.
·       Ability to manage staff
·       Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and multi task

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
