PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Appointing a Professor / Associate Professor /Senior Lecturer in social work to contribute towards undergraduate and post graduate teaching, practice supervision of students and research supervision of post graduate students
Job description
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Ability and experience to work from an evidence-based approach in social work and its relevant primary and secondary methods.
- Excellent communication skills (Verbal and written)
- Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various multilingual environment of the NWU.
- Computer literacy (Microsoft office, e-mails, power-point, software for data analysis)
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
- Ability to use e-media for teaching, studying and communication
- The ability to work well independently and also in a team
- Good time management and ability to work well under pressure
JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Engaged teaching and learning on both under- and post graduate levels:
- Develop study material, facilitate contact sessions, internal and external moderation and assessments.
2. Engaged research:
- Supervision of post graduate students
- Internal and external examination of post graduate research dissertations and/or theses
- Participation in the application in the applicable research entity and publication of scholar articles
- Independent research and sharing of expertise with diverse communities of practice and enquiry
Minimum requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
As Professor:
- PhD in Social work
- Registration as social worker with the SACSSP
- Ten (10) years’ experience as social worker
- At least one publication in the field of social work per year in accredited scholarly journals in the previous 5 years
- Evidence of scientific contributions at national and international conferences
- Evidence of independent research in a focus of social work or social development.
- NRF rating will serve as a recommendation
- Six (6) years’ experience in teaching university students on under- and or post graduate levels
- Previous experience of practice supervision to social work students will serve as strong recommendation
- Proven record of supervising Master’s and Doctoral level social work students towards completion
- Practice experience as school social worker will serve as strong recommendation
As Associate professor:
- PhD in Social Work
- Registration as social worker with the SACSSP
- Five (5) years’ experience as social worker
- At least one publication per year in the field of social work in accredited scholarly journals in the previous five (5) years.
- Five (5) years’ experience in teaching university students on under- or post graduate levels.
- Previous experience of practice supervision to social work students will serve as strong recommendation
- Previous experience of supervising Master’s and/or Doctoral level social work students towards completion
- Practice experience as school social worker will serve as strong recommendation
Senior lecturer:
- Master’s degree in Social Work.
- Registration as social worker with the SACSSP
- Three (3) years’ experience as social worker
- At least two (2) publications in the field of social work in accredited scholarly journals.
- Previous experience in teaching university students on under- or post graduate levels will serve as recommendation
- Previous experience of practice supervision to social work students will serve as strong recommendation
- Previous experience of supervising Master’s level social work students will serve as recommendation
- Practice experience as school social worker will serve as strong recommendation
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
