PERMANENT APPOINTMENT
Purpose of the position: Appointment of a Full / Associate Professor to strengthen the research output of the Centre of Excellence for Nutrition.
Job description
Functional/Technical competencies (Knowledge and Skills)
· The ability to conceptualise, plan and execute original research in the broader field of nutrition
· The ability to write successful grant proposals
· The ability to conceptualise, structure and write scientific research articles and reports
· The ability to guide, mentor and deliver post-graduate students to develop as scientists
· The ability to think and act innovatively in the research and teaching environment
· Advanced computer skills that include competence in MS Office, the use of statistical software, and the use of email and internet
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various functionally multilingual environments of the NWU

Recommendations
· Registration with the HPCSA
· Active participation in the governance of national and international scholarly or professional societies
· Experience in research on nutritional status and health of children and adults
Minimum requirements
· PhD in Dietetics / Nutrition or related field
· 5 Years’ experience and track record of successful post-graduate student supervision in Dietetics / Human Nutrition
· Track record of teaching experience in Dietetics / Human Nutrition
· Experience in leading at least 2 research projects in Dietetics / Human Nutrition that led to peer reviewed publications
Responsibilities:
· Conceptualize, plan and execute innovative research projects
· Plan, structure and publish scientific outputs e.g. articles, book chapters, conference presentations
· Seek opportunities and secure funding for research by writing successful grant proposals
· Effective and constructive interpersonal relationships; motivate others to be effective, efficient and to achieve goals.
· Teaching and training post-graduate students
· Serves on national / international panels / societies
· Engage with external non-academic constituencies including community engagement
· Adhere and apply occupational health protocols during teaching and research activities
