NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) FACULTY/ DIVISION: HUMANITIES POSITION NUMBER: P002673 VACANCY: JUNIOR LECTURER: ACADEMIC LITERACY PEROMNES GRADE: A9 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The Subject Group: Academic Literacy in the School of Languages (PC) needs to fill this teaching position to deliver the necessary services to our students.
Job description

1.    Teaching & Learning
·         Take responsibility for a full lecturing load on the ALDE/A 111, 112 and 122 modules, related administrative tasks, guided development of learning materials for academic literacy modules
2.    Research
·         Improve qualifications to master’s level, contribute towards the research output of the School of Languages.
3.    Management and University Services
·         Fulfilling management tasks and duties in service of the University as a whole, as they arise.
4.    Community Involvement
·         Involvement in relevant community service projects.

Minimum requirements

·         BA Honours in Linguistics / Applied Linguistics or related field
·         2 years’ lecturing experience at a tertiary institution

ADDED ADVANTAGE & PREFERENCES:
·         Membership of relevant body (example: SAALT- South African Association For Language Teaching)
 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Fundamental knowledge of key issues in the development of Academic Literacy
·         Excellent communication skills
·         Excellent level of computer literacy and LMS development

KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Excellent administrative and organising ability
·         Ability and willingness to work as part of a team
·         Ability to self-motivate
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
