Job description


JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.    Food preparation and production
·         Utilise their knowledge of food preparation and general operation of food service units to manage the kitchen.
2.    Quality and Stock control
·         Ensure quality control with regard to stock storage, maintenance of correct temperatures, management of quality of a product. 
3.    Administration and Planning
·         Execution of administrative tasks.
4.    Staff management
·         Management of staff in terms of training, discipline and conflict management.
·         Delegate tasks and motivate staff to perform their tasks.
5.    Occupational Health and Safety
·         Ensure the application of health and safety procedures.
6.    Liaison
·         Liaise with students, clients, and suppliers.
7.    Personal Development
·         Ensure personal development of oneself and keeping abreast of new technology.
       
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.

Minimum requirements


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
·         Grade 10 or equivalent.
·         Three (3) years’ experience in large scale food preparation in a catering unit.
 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Knowledge of occupational health and safety procedures.
·         Knowledge of personnel management and disciplinary procedures.
·         Basic computer skills and knowledge of meal payment system.
·         Knowledge and ability to handle use of large-scale equipment and apparatus.
·         Knowledge of stock control and stock management.
·         The ability to handle administrative tasks.

KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Good communication skills.
·         Ability to be client-centred and ability to liaise with colleagues and suppliers.
·         Willingness to work irregular working hours.
·         Ability to work as part of a team.
·         Good time management skills.
