PURPOSE OF THE POSITION To maintain safety and security effectively and efficiently on the NWU Potchefstroom campus.
Job description

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to function within a multilingual and multicultural environment.

·       Complete and maintain an accurate pocketbook and incident documentation.
·       Complete and conduct regular visitations, seizure(s) and present evidence to internal and external stakeholders.
·       Perform reactive service once alarms are triggered.
·       Advanced interpersonal skills and investigative skills with reference to traffic and access control.
·       The ability to facilitate opening and closing of buildings.
·       Ability to identify and report Occupational Health and Safety risks and hazards.

Minimum requirements

·       Grade 12.
·       PSiRA Grade B certification.
·       Eight (8) years’ continuous experience at NWU Protection Services department.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.      Communication and Stakeholder Relations
·       Communicate effectively with all stakeholders with regards to protection services through various mediums.
·       Assist and ensure compliance with the safety and security regulations and standard operating Procedures at the NWU Potchefstroom campus.
·       Manage and ensure effectiveness of shifts with joint accountability with the leadership team.
2.      Crime Information Management
·       Ensure crime information received is reported to the Control Officer and necessary documents are completed.
·       Ensure that crime, incidents, and information are attended to.
3.      Operations
·       Execute daily patrols and access control
·       Perform regular visits and conduct service provider inspections to ensure compliance. Report if there are any deviations.
·       Ensure effective alarm management.
·       Ensure the key control is done efficiently.
·       Maintain regular and consistent radio and telephone communication.
·       Maintain effective incident management.
·       Ensure all faults and deviations reported are captured timeously.
4.      Security
·       Conduct physical crime prevention measures withing regulations and policy directives.
·       Adhere and ensure compliance with service level agreements(s) between NWU Potchefstroom Protection Services and relevant stakeholders, including but not limited to, monitoring outsourced security services.
5.      Disaster Management
·       Ensure  immediate response[s] to relevant disasters.
·       Ensure effective internal and external stakeholder communication with reference to incident response  and catastrophic incidents.
 
6.      Special Events and Emergency Services
·       Ensure protection of public lives and NWU property against fire hazards and other risks.
·       Ensure the deployment of  members at Special Events in accordance to relevant legislation.
       
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
