Purpose of the position: Teaching and Learning; research and consultation services within the Subject Group Statistics.
Job description
Responsibilities:
- Teaching and Learning: Presenting undergraduate and postgraduate Statistics modules; and the development of new modules.
- Research: Publish papers in accredited Mathematical Statistics journals; and work towards obtaining an NRF rating, supervise Ph.D. and Masters students.
- Administration/management: Help with administrative and management tasks within the Subject Group.
- Generating money stream 3 income: Consultation as part of statistical consultation service
Minimum requirements
Minimum requirements:
· Ph.D. in Mathematical Statistics or a closely related field is essential for Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor position.
AND
Senior Lecturer position
o Three (3) years teaching experience in undergraduate and postgraduate modules, OR three (3) years statistical consultation experience.
o Proven research track record which includes publishing at least two papers in accredited journals. Research interests aligned with those of the subject group will be advantageous.
o Proven track record of successfully supervising or co-supervising Master's students.
Associate Professor position
o Eight (8) years teaching experience in undergraduate and postgraduate modules, OR eight (8) years of statistical consultation.
o Proven research track record which includes publishing at least six papers in accredited journals. Research interests aligned with those of the subject group will be advantageous.
o Proven track record of successfully supervising Masters or Ph.D. students.
o Some statistical consultation experience for the position of A/P
Essential Competencies
Functional/Technical competencies (knowledge and skills)
· Ability to present undergraduate and postgraduate statistics modules.
· Act as a group coordinator for modules with multiple groups.
· Ability to handle large undergraduate classes.
· Handle administrative tasks and take on leadership roles within the Subject Group.
· Supervise Masters and Ph.D. Mathematical Statistics students.
· Do independent research in Mathematical Statistics.
· Do statistical consultation as part of statistical consultation services.
· Participate in the money stream 3 endeavours of the Subject Group.
· Communicate well (verbally and in writing).
· Use several statistical computer packages.
Behavioural competencies
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Good interpersonal and people skills.
· Be able to act as a mentor for junior staff.
