NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) FACULTY/ DIVISION: SCHOOL OF MATHEMATICS AND STATISTICAL SCIENCES POSITION NUMBER: P000849 VACANCY: LECTURER PEROMNES GRADE: A8 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The candidate will be responsible for lecturing undergraduate and/or postgraduate statistics modules, and can also be expected to be involved in the development of new modules. Other duties include the supervision of honours students.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·       Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
·       Ability to analyse data using advanced statistical techniques by means of suitable statistical computer packages (such as SAS, R, SPSS and STATISTICA)
·       Ability to provide guidance with regards to data collection
·       Ability to present both undergraduate and postgraduate statistics modules
·       Ability to act as group coordinator for modules with multiple groups
·       Ability to handle large undergraduate classes and supervise honours students
 
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Ability to work independently and effectively in a team
·         Ability to act as a mentor for junior staff
 
 
JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
1.      TEACHING AND LEARNING
·       Presenting undergraduate and postgraduate statistics modules. Development of new modules.
 
2.      RESEARCH AND INNOVATION
·       Providing supervision for postgraduate students 
 
3.      MONEY STREAM 3
·       Participating in other money stream 3 endeavours, such as the presentation of short courses.
4.      ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT TASKS
·       Helping with administrative and management tasks within the subject group.

Minimum requirements

·       MSc in Mathematical Statistics or equivalent
·       Registered for PhD or intention to register for PhD
·       Membership with the Subject society, SASA - desirable
·       2 years’ experience in teaching undergraduate and honours courses – desirable.
