NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFTSROOM CAMPUS) DIVISION: BUSINESS AND ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT: RESIDENCE AND CATERING VACANCY: HEAD CHEF PEROMNES NUMBER: 12 POSITION NUMBER: P0001850 PERMANENT APPOINTMENT Purpose of the position: Person is responsible in conjunction with Senior Shift Manager for day to day operation of the NWU Sports Village.
Job description

Functional/Technical competencies (Knowledge and Skills)
·       Willingness to work shifts and over weekends
·       A valid driver’s licence
·       Flexibility, creativity and organised
·       Fasted-paced decision making skills
·       Motivational Management
·       Basic accounting skills-food pricing, cost reduction, cost control
·       Experience in stock taking, issuing and control
·       Experience in the preparation and handling of functions and conferences
·       Food regulations and food safety

·       A positive client-service orientation
·       Good interpersonal relations
·       Self-motivation and sound judgement
·       The ability to apply effective time management
·       The ability to do physical work
·       Demonstration of language proficiency in order to function in the various multilingual environments of the NWU/

Minimum requirements

·       Grade 12
·       Diploma (Chef)
·       3 Years’ experience in hospitality

Responsibilities:
·       Responsible for general management of kitchen division
·       Create Menus according to specifications
·       Food preparation and stock control
·       Monitoring of high standard food
·       Monitoring of chef shifts
·       Purchase of food and prices according to contract prices
·       Monthly stock take
·       Costings on Menus
·       Maintain discipline of subordinates
·       Internal and external liaising
