Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION 

To fill a permanent position  in SPSE in the subject group Curriculum Studies on the Vanderbijlpark Campus. To carry out duties relating to teaching & learning, research, and community engagement for the subject group Curriculum Studies.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Teaching and learning
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning in a secondary/higher education context, in Curriculum Studies or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, assess, and moderate undergraduate and postgraduate learning activities.
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, study guide development and the preparation of teaching and learning materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to use learning management systems and educational technologies to support teaching, learning, and assessment.
  • Demonstrated involvement in research and furthering own qualification.
Research
  • The furthering of own qualifications. Involvement in general research (e.g., publishing in accredited journals, presenting papers at conferences).
  • Support and involvement in a research entity.
Community engagement
  • Be involved in or initiate community engagement projects.
Academic leadership
  • Involvement in school and faculty committees.
  • Contribute to advising students and recruitment activities.

Minimum requirements

  • A BEd honours degree (NQF Level 8) in Curriculum Studies.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of school teaching experience.
ADDED ADVANTAGES:
  • An MEd degree (NQF Level 9) in Curriculum Studies.
  • Have proven teaching experience in curriculum studies.
  • A minimum of one (1) year’s teaching experience at tertiary level.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Computer literacy in MS Office, e-mail, internet and being able to work on an LMS to develop and deliver material through an LMS.
  • Assessment competencies.
  • Commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to become involved in students’ educational environment.
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Ability to take initiative, solve problems, and exercise sound judgment.
  • Reliability, accountability, and commitment to professional and ethical academic conduct.
REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
