Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Appointing an Associate Professor, Senior Lecturer or Lecturer to contribute towards undergraduate and post graduate teaching, practice supervision of students and research supervision of post graduate students in the subject group Psychology.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.     Teaching and learning, including higher degree supervision.

2.     Research and innovation

3.     Social responsiveness and industry involvement.

4.     Academic leadership, management, and administration.

Minimum requirements

·          Associate Professor:

  • A PhD (NQF 10) in Psychology.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience teaching and learning university students on under- and post graduate levels.
  • A proven publication record in accredited scholarly journals.
  • Evidence of supervising post graduate students (M and PhD level) to completion.
  • Applicant must be registered as a Clinical, Counselling or Research Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)

·          Senior Lecturer:

  • A master’s degree (NQF level 9) in Psychology.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience teaching and learning university students on under- and post graduate levels.
  • At least two publications in accredited scholarly journals.
  • Evidence of supervising post graduate students on M level to completion.
  • Applicant must be registered as a Clinical, Counselling or Research Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)

·          Lecturer:

  • A master’s degree (NQF level 9) in Psychology.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience teaching and learning university students on undergraduate levels.
  • Applicant must be registered as a Clinical, Counselling or Research Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

·          Ability and experience to work from an evidence-based approach in psychology.

·          Excellent communication skills (verbally and written).

·          Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU.

·          Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, e-mails, software for data analysis).

BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

·          Ability to use e-media for teaching, studying and communication.

·          The ability to work well independently as well as in a team.

·          Good time management and ability to work well under pressure.

 

REMUNERATION:

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
