PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: Steering and Management of veterinary laboratory in Animal Health
Job description
- Leading the acquisition and maintenance of the laboratory accreditation with SANS and DAFF
- Coordinate and monitor the day to day Management of the Animal Health Veterinary Laboratory and report writing
- Coordinate the analysis and reporting of samples microbiology, parasitology, haematology, pathology for PT and customers and ensure the quality assurance
- Assist staff and students (undergraduates and postgraduates) in veterinary laboratory with practical
- Develop and administer short courses
- Administration
Minimum requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- B-Tech/ BSc degree specializing in Veterinary Laboratory Technology/ Biomedical Science is essential
- PhD or equivalent is desirable
EXPERIENCE:
5 years’ experience in Veterinary microbiology, parasitology, haematology is essential
FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS):
- Sound Knowledge and proof of quality assurance of veterinary laboratory
- Experience in the Management of Veterinary Laboratory
- Proof of Participation in laboratory accreditation processes
- Sound knowledge of veterinary diagnostic methodology (microbiology, parasitology, haematology)
- Basic knowledge of molecular microbiology
BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
- Ability to work with other staff and students
- Computer literacy
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
