Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Manages IT solution across one or more Business areas Responsible for the systematic and methodical investigation, analysis and documentation of all or part of a business area in terms of business functions and processes and the information they use across applications. Identifies and examines business needs and determines timely and effective solutions to business functions and processes. These solutions often includes systems development, process improvement and alignment, organizational change, documentation of functional requirements and ensure best practices. Ensures that all stakeholders have a shared understanding of the solution and how they will be implemented.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.    Stakeholder engagement:
·         Acts as a bridge between business and the IT teams. Build long term relationship with stakeholders across business areas. Influence and explain technical details to a non-technical stakeholder in a persuasive and convincing manner.
2.    Implement Cost effective solutions:
·         Determine if internal or external solutions exist and whether new solutions are feasible. Evaluate, design and documents the underlying business architecture, conducts feasibility studies, creates functional requirements for new solutions and processes according to approved standards and methodologies.
3.    Business optimisation:
·         Review impacted business processes and work with business stakeholders to identify and make business process improvements that result in cost savings, higher quality, increased efficiencies, lower risk, and shorter cycle times.
4.    Documentation:
·         Establish comprehensive and applicable documentation throughout the solution implementation, addressing proposals, requirements, business processes and flows, test and implementation plans
5.    Change Management:
·         Work with stakeholders and associated business units to reduce resistance and effect of change. Involved in preparation of change management plans, define change management duties and create an understanding in and across business areas when implementing new solutions
6.    Quality Assurance:
·         Establish acceptance criteria, effective testing plans and methods to satisfy quality, success and auditability of any solution implemented.
7.    Resource Management:
· Co-ordinate, supervise of internal and external resources within smaller teams in the development and implementation of business solutions. Is accountable for some aspects of project deliverables.

Minimum requirements

·         A Degree (NQF Level 7) or Diploma (NQF Level 6) and certificates in Information Technology
·         Experience in managing data lineage, data modelling and integration development.
·         A minimum of 5 years’ experience understanding all aspects of the solution development life cycle (e.g. requirements, analysis, design, development, implementation/deploy, testing, and documentation), integration and implementation at an advanced level
·         A minimum of 5 years’ knowledge of industry standards and best practice in solution architecture and design
 
RECOMMENDATION:
·         Java Certification or other relevant certification
 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Good understanding of the functioning of higher education institutional structures
·         Good Communication Skills (verbal and writing ability) – Afrikaans and English
·         General knowledge of quality assurance in higher education
·         Interpreting and reporting of financial statements
·         Good organising ability (Filing, document management and formatting, planning, printing of documentation, scheduling of meetings)
·         Client Service Delivery (in multicultural context/environment)
·         Computer literate (All Microsoft applications). An understanding of Microsoft Visio would be an advantage.
·         Positive human relations.
 
BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Stable, adaptable with high stress tolerance in a mature way.
·         Sound analytical, problem-solving, troubleshooting, interpretive and presentation skills .
·         Strong communication skills - both written and verbal - with the ability to engage with both internal and external stakeholders.
·         Self-starter with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
·         A desire to remain technically capable and an expert in current technologies.
·         Excellent personal organisation and ability to prioritise and carry out multiple tasks in constantly changing environment.
·         Ability to translate ideas and business requirements into fully functioning ETL workflows.
 

REMUNERATION:

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
