Job description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Hazard Investigation Management
· Assist in compiling risk assessments.
· Conduct walkabout inspections for the purpose of identify all hazard exposures and their associated risks.
· Formulate risk assessments and ensure they all bear correct Legal References
· Consolidate all risk assessments for all NWU Campuses.
· Assess OHS hazards reported on the NWU SHE system, track, assign and monitor closure and action plan.
· Provide monthly report to HOD of SHE Department
Incident Management
· Analyse incidents trends.
· Assign investigators.
· Evaluate all investigation.
· Co-ordinate creation of an action plan for addressing findings
· Following up on the effectiveness of control measures implements.
· Develop and communicate “Incident OHS Insights”.
· Provide monthly report to HOD of SHE Department
Safety Inspections and Audits
· Plan with OHS coordinators an NWU OHS inspection and audit yearly planner.
· Assist coordinators in doing high level SHE Inspections and audits on all campuses.
· Monitor activities and operations and working environment to ensure compliance.
· Formulate SHE Inspection Reports from all inspections with OHS coordinators.
· Follow up on the implementation of all recommendations to address findings with OHS coordinators.
· Provide NWU SHE Dept HOD with monthly summative audit and inspection report.
OHS System Management / Coordination
· Oversee the management of the NWU SHE system.
· Assess compliance of each Faculty/Department and formulate plan with OHS co-ordinators to address and close any OHS gaps.
Contractor Management (Year service providers)
· Approval of OHS files for all year contractors.
· Conduct safety audits on year contractors.
· Maintain list of all year contractors, files approval and audits.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
· Experience in the implementation and management of safety management systems.
· In depth knowledge of OHS Legislation.
· Knowledge of conducting risk assessment, OHS budgets, OHS specifications and auditing.
· Computer literacy: MS Office.
· Excellent written, communication and reporting skills.
· Compile SHE budgets and cost estimates.
· Excellent resource allocation and time management skills.
· Experience in management of multiple projects simultaneously
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
· Team leader and team player (positive social and interpersonal skills).
· Able to operate independently with delegated authorities.
· Strategic thinker and planner.
· Ability to work under pressure and high demand.
Minimum requirements
· Bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7) in Safety or Health
· A postgraduate qualification (NQF Level 8) in Management
· A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in Safety Management
· A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in OHS auding, reporting and OHS system implementation and management
ADDED ADVANTAGES:
· Registration as a construction Health and Safety Manager with (SACPCMP)
REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
