Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
 
These are specialist positions which encompass specialist in the field of graphic design. These specialists work in close collaboration with the Instructional Designers and Multimedia Developers to design and development digital study material and other educational artefacts.
Graphics designers design and develop graphics and visual material used in teaching and learning at the North-West University.
These specialists are responsible for the total production process from conception to final delivery, or parts of the production process as part of the multimedia design team


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.    Teams lead
·         Plan staff compliment to reach set goals
·         Take responsibility to fill vacancies
·         Responsible for staff wellbeing programme
·         Performance management and evaluations
·         Responsible for equal distribution of tasks
·         Plan and execute budget to reach set goals
·         Service, operational and quality management
·         Attend management meetings and report back.

2.    Administration
·         Administration of work process
·         Internal financial admin
·         Internal stock control
·         Service requests
·         Reporting and recordkeeping
·         Coordinate staff leave
·         Keep projects up to date on the project management system
·         Handle relevant administration per project.

3.    Multimedia design and development
·         Analyse client needs and timeframe
·         Plan and conceptualise the execution of projects
·         Design projects
·         Develop and implement projects
·         Participate in project meetings
·         Get sign off on draft/s
·         Deliver final design in the correct format.

4.    Customer service

·         Liase with customers - academics, students, colleagues, and other support staff.

5.    Training and development
·         Attend training and mentoring sessions. Support other multimedia developers and instructional designers within your expertise.

6.    Personal Development
·         Remain up to date with software updates and focus on relevant development.

Minimum requirements

·         An appropriate bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Graphic Design or Multimedia Design (NQF Level 7)
 
EXPERIENCE:
 
·         5 years’ experience in proficient in graphic design software (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Illustrator)
·         5 years’ experience in excellent administrative, managerial and project management skills.
·         5 years’ experience in proficient with MS Office 365 software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
·         5 years’ proven experience in Graphic Design / Multi Media / Print studio environments, multi-tasking and team management.
 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Skilled in the Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite
·         Good Record keeping skills
·         Knowledge of principles for providing proper customer services
·         Accuracy and attention to detail to deliver accurate products conforming to applicable quality standards
·         Technical skills to operate computers, printers and other technologies used in multimedia development.
 
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
·         The ability to work in a team, to receive various sources of feedback for the continuous improvement of multimedia products
·         Good organisational and time-management abilities
·         Must be able to follow instructions and learn new skills


The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
