Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The purpose of this position is to provide efficient work regarding English and Afrikaans translations and interpreting.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.       Promoting Multilingualism in both English and Afrikaans languages generally by translation, interpreting, editing and language advisory services in both languages.

2.       Providing quality English and Afrikaans Translation, interpreting, editing services.

3.       English and Afrikaans Terminology Development.

4.       Editing of English and Afrikaans documents.

Minimum requirements

·        A bachelor’s degree (NQF level 7) in Language Practice with Translations or Linguistics or Interpreting studies.

·        A minimum of 2 years’ experience

RECOMMENDATIONS:

·        Accreditation with the South African Translators' Institute (SATI).

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

·        Knowledge and experience of translation from English to Afrikaans

·        Knowledge and experience of translation from Afrikaans to English.

·        Knowledge and experience of editing English and Afrikaans documents.

·        Knowledge and experience of interpreting from English into Afrikaans

BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

·        Competency in Afrikaans

·        Competency in English.

·        Knowledge and experience in translation, interpreting and editing.

·        Good interpersonal relationships.

·        Effective time management.

 

REMUNERATION:

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
