Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching and Learning
  • Engaged teaching and learning on both under- and post graduate levels.
  • Development of study material, facilitating contact sessions, internal and external moderation and compiling assessment on the appropriate NQF levels.

Research
  • Engaged research: Supervision of post graduate students; internal and external examination of post graduate research dissertations and/or theses; participation in the applicable research entity and publication of scholarly articles.
  • Independent research and sharing of expertise with diverse communities of practice and enquiry.

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
 
Associate Professor
  • PhD in Psychology is essential
  • Registered as clinical / Counselling / Research Psychologist with the HPCSA is essential
  • 5 years generic theoretical and practice experience in the field of psychology is essential
Evidence of independent research:
  • 5 years proven publication record of at least one article per year in accredited scholarly journals
  • 5 years evidence of supervising post graduate students (M and PhD level) to completion

University teaching
  • At least 5 years’ experience of teaching / learning university students on under- and post graduate levels
 
Senior Lecturer
  • Master’s degree in psychology is essential
  • Registration as Clinical / Counselling / Research psychologist with the HPCSA is essential
  • 5 years generic theoretical and practice experience in the field of psychology is essential
Evidence of independent research:
  • At least two publications in accredited scholarly journals
  • Evidence of supervising post graduate students on M level to completion
University teaching
  • At least 2 years’ experience of teaching / learning university students on under- and post graduate levels
 
 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Ability and experience to work from an evidence-based approach in psychology
  • Excellent communication skills (verbally and written)
  • Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft office, e-mails, power point, software for data analysis)
 
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Ability to use e-media for teaching, studying and communication
  • The ability to work well independently as well as in a team
 
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
