Job description

POST DESCRIPTION
The Nuclear Engineering research group within the Unit for Energy and Technology Systems is looking for qualified candidates to apply for a post-doctoral fellow position. We are seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher to conduct research in computational nuclear engineering analysis. The position involves the compilation and use of open-source nuclear engineering codes, with appropriate comparisons for verification and validation. The nuclear systems under study are Small Modular Reactor (SMR) cores of the LWR and HTR types. The prospective candidate must be able to plan and conduct research, document, and publish the results in peer-reviewed literature.

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Relevant PhD degree obtained within five years before the appointment as a postdoctoral fellow.

REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS
  • Experience with neutronic, thermal-hydraulic and fuel performance code coupling
  • Ability to program in C and Fortran
  • Experience with running Nuclear Reactor Analysis computer codes in Linux and Windows operating systems
  • Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering or related field
  • Record of publications
  • Excellent communications skills and team work ability.

REMUNERATION
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
