Introduction
NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) FACULTY/ DIVISION: FACULTY OF ECONOMICS AND MANAGEMENT SCIENCES POSITION NUMBER: P003212 VACANCY: LECTURER NGAP PEROMNES GRADE: A8 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT
Job description

The North-West University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the following position, which form part of the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). Preference will be given to applications from black (African, Coloured and Indian), female and disabled candidates, with a target that at least 80% of applicants should be appointed from these groups. Applicants must be SA citizens and 40 years or younger of age. The nGAP represents the ninth phase of the Staffing South African Universities Framework (SSAUF), which the Minister of Higher Education and Training approved at the start of 2015 as an initiative to improve the academic staffing capacity of South African universities. The programme aims at addressing the urgent and challenging imperative to recruit, support and retain black (African, Coloured and Indian), female academic and disabled staff to address the under-representation at all levels in the sector. It is a key vehicle to contribute to the transformation of the academic staff profile in disciplines of greatest need. nGAP employees will participate in a six-year developmental programme in terms of which they will be employed on a permanent full-time basis at the NWU under the University's normal conditions of service. They will be expected to register for and complete their doctoral studies, participate successfully in the DHET's Staffing South Africa's Universities Development Programme, and work under the supervision of an appointed mentor. In order to achieve the developmental aims of the programme, nGAP employees will have a reduced teaching load over the first four years of their appointment. They will be expected to work for additional two years at NWU after the completion of the six-year developmental programme. APPLICANTS SHOULD HAVE A MASTER'S DEGREE WITH AN ACADEMIC AVERAGE OF 70% FOR THE MASTER’S DEGREE, THIS IS ESSENTIAL. PROOF OF RESULTS MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE APPLICATION.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The nGAP position in the School of Economic Sciences is part of the SSAUF initiative by the DHET to improve the academic staffing at South African universities. It is a prestigious programme to enable young black candidates to follow a career as an academic. nGAP employees will participate in a six-year developmental programme on a permanent full-time basis under the University's normal conditions of service and will work under the supervision of an appointed mentor. In order to achieve the developmental aims of the programme, nGAP employees will have a reduced teaching load over the first three years of their appointment.
