Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Manage the farm and to meet requirements for teaching, learning and research for School of Agriculture. In addition, able to do other assigned functions from the School Director or Deputy Dean (T & L).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analysis of plant pathology and microbiology.
  • Laboratory management and planning.
  • Financial management (Budgeting).
  • Participate in practical training (WIL).
  • Liaise with academics, students & community around university.

Minimum requirements

  • A National Diploma in Microbiology/Plant Pathology (NQF level 6).
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ technician experience in Microbiology/Plant Pathology.
  • Professional registration with SACNASP or any related professional body.

ADDED ADVANTAGE

  • A member of a professional society.

Functional / Technical Competencies (Knowledge and Skills)

  • Soil, plant, plant pathology and microbiology techniques skills with 2 and above years’ experience
  • Establishing standard operational procedures (SOPs) 
  • Knowledge of instrumentation
  • DNA molecular extraction
