NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) DIVISION: FINANCE AND FACILITIES DEPARTMENT: RESIDENANCE AND CATERING POSITION NUMBER: P001681 VACANCY: RESIDENCE OFFICER PEROMNES GRADE: 13 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT APPOINTMENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The role of the Residence Official is essential for the effective operation of the Oppirif Residence, including the administration, cleaning, and maintenance of buildings, as well as to ensure the safety of the students.
Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervision of the Cleaning Staff

·        See to it that work is done according to agreement.

Maintenance of Equipment and Buildings

·        Identify defects during inspections.

·        Identify repair work to be done in residence.

·        Follow-up on Service Billings not concluded or inferior quality of work.

·        Submission of terrain reports.

Operation of Residence

·        General tidiness/hygiene.

·        Be fully informed of rules, policy and procedures of Residence and Catering Services.

·        Finalization of admin duties, e.g. cancellations, room inventory forms, etc.

·        Manage annual stock-taking.

·        Manage consumable materials.

·        Improved control of power and water consumption

·        Control breakage.

·        Effective conducting of decisions taken at meetings and training sessions.

·        Advise HC members and communicate duties to them in writing.

·        Finalization of room inspections.

·        Submission of safety reports, risks, and hazards.

Assistance and availability to Supervisors and students

·        Available to students with operational problems in residence.

·        Informal inspections.

·        Attendance of residence management meetings.

·        Serve as relief at stay-over/neighbouring residence.

·        Available to students with operational problems in residence.

Personal developments

·        Attendance of appropriate development programmers.

Ad-Hoc Duties

·        Manage holiday-accommodation guests.

Minimum requirements

·        Grade 12 (NQF Level 4).

·        A minimum of 2 years’ experience in the management of staff/contractors.

·        A minimum of 2 years’ experience in identifying, overseeing, and coordinating the maintenance of equipment and buildings.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

·        Good communication skills and fault reporting.

·        Ability to work according to planning schedules with measurable intermediate goals.

·        Computer Literacy to work with electronic job cards.

·        Advanced knowledge of infrastructure processes.

·        Ability to function under pressure and make decisions according to regulations.

KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

·        People relationships, client attitude and experience in supervision over personnel.

·        The ability to delegate and strict control over staff to exercise.

·        Equal moderately temper.

·        Good management ability and maintain discipline.

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
