PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To meet requirements for teaching, learning and research including supervising postgraduates’ students for the School of Agriculture and able to do assigned functions from the School Director or Deputy Dean (T & L). Preparation of study guides and contribute towards the development of new curriculum and/or the review of the existing curriculum. Build on existing and/or initiate strong relationships with communities (including farmers’ groups, science council etc) by providing advisory services or conducting research that project the image of the University. Involved in management aspects related to an academic programme and/or research group.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaching and learning.
- Research and post graduate supervision.
- Administration and management.
- Liaise with academics, students & community around university.
Minimum requirements
- A PhD in Crop Protection/ Plant Pathology (NQF level 10).
- 3-5 years post graduate supervision.
- Registered with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Profession (SACNASP) or any related body.
- Membership with a Professional Society.
- A minimum of 3 years’ senior lecturing experience in Crop Protection/ Plant Pathology.
- A proven track record of published articles in accredited and high impact journals.
FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Tertiary teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level in Weeds & Weeds Control, Plant Pathology & Nematology, Agricultural entomology & Applied Crop Protection and Agronomy. Experience in Crop Science will be a recommendation.
- Research in Crop Protection specifically in Weeds & Weeds Control, Plant Pathology & Nematology, Agricultural Entomology & Applied Crop Protection.
- Experience in the disease and pests’ control and management will be recommended.
- Strong ability to use GenStat/SAS software and any other relevant statistical software packages.

REMUNERATION
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
