A post-doctoral fellow position is available within the Engineering Agri Systems research group, within the Faculty of Engineering. We are seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher to aid in various engineering research that is conducted in the agricultural sector.
The Engineering Agri Systems research group performs applied engineering research in the Agricultural industry. The focus of the entity is to improve and innovate agricultural practices through engineering solutions, e.g precision agriculture, sustainable farming practices, lean-agri, sustainable livestock practices and agri-food supply chains. The groups aims to use proven engineering techniques, as well as applied research to improve agricultural processes, thereby making companies and farms more effective, efficient and profitable, ultimately contributing to sustainable food security.

Job description
The successful candidate will work in an environment that will develop their research skills and grow their research profile by collaborating and publishing nationally and internationally. The candidate will participate in the research group by working in collaboration with a supervisor. The candidate will also interact with postgraduate students by acting as co-supervisor and/or mentor for master’s and doctoral students.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct research independently
- Publish in high-impact journals
- Co-supervision of postgraduate students
- Mentorship to postgraduate students
- Writing of research and funding proposals
- Participation in applied research projects in industry.
Minimum requirements
- Relevant PhD degree obtained within five years before the appointment as a postdoctoral fellow
- Applicable publication record
- Excellent communication skills and teamwork ability
- An interest in the agricultural industry

REMUNERATION
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
