PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Agronomy Lecturer is required to engage in teaching and learning, and in research writing publications within the field of Agronomy.
Job description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching and Learning
· Teaching of CSPM411 and CSPM311.
· Study leading of Honours level 4th year research projects.
· Supervision of MSc and PhD students.
Research
· Publish in DHET accredited peer reviewed journals.
· Attend and present at local and international conferences.
Management
· Performing academic administration and management.
· Contributing towards program development and improvement.
· Various managerial tasks as required by subject group.
Community Service
· Engaging in community projects.
· Performing other duties as delegated by the line manager.
· Peer review of journal articles.
· Active member of discipline society.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
· Ability to teach Agronomy at fourth year level in the crops cultivated within the North-West Province.
· Ability to supervise postgraduate students.
· Ability to conduct research in Crop Production/Agronomy or similar fields and potential to publish in peer-reviewed journals.
· Experience in project management.
· Ability to attract research funding.
· Working in a multi-cultural environment.
· Good communication skills (oral and written).
· Good inter-personal relationships.
· Ability to execute effective time management.

Minimum requirements
LECTURER:
· An MSc degree (NQF level 9) in Agronomy or related field.
· A minimum of 3 years’ teaching and research experience.
· A minimum of 1 year experience in interacting with organised/commercial agriculture.
SENIOR LECTURER:
· A PhD (NQF level 10) in Agronomy or related field.
· A minimum of 3 years’ teaching and research experience.
· A minimum of 1 year experience in interacting with organised/commercial agriculture.
ADDED ADVANTAGES:
· Accreditation as an Agriculturalist with the SACNASP.
· A minimum of 1 year experience in academic management
· Experience in related agricultural discipline
· Experience in Soil Sciences will be a recommendation.
REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
