Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Functional operation in Teaching and Learning, Research and Innovation, Community Engagement and leadership in the School of Nursing.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching and Learning:

  • Participate in curriculum development, implementation and evaluation of undergraduate program.
  • Lead students and support Undergraduate Teaching and Learning.
  • Develop, register, coordinate and present Short Learning Programmes (SLPs)
  • Facilitate clinical teaching and learning of the undergraduate nursing students.
  • Facilitate simulation laboratory teaching activities,
  • Mange teaching and learning records.
  • Management and development of students in clinical practice.
  • Coaching and mentoring in clinical nursing health fields.
  • At the teaching and learning director’s discretion, assist specific schools where the incumbent has the knowledge and expertise with both undergraduate and post-graduate modules where requested.
  • Support with Teaching and Learning of research module in undergraduate program.

Research and Innovation:

  • Increased number of publications.
  • Conduct research and publish findings in national and international journals.
  • Support and lead the enhancement of publications for a developing research staff compliment.
  • Supervise master’s and PhD students.
  • Update and develop research methodology course work for master’s and PhD students.
  • Initiate and maintain both national and international research networks.
  • Participate in the evaluation of ethics and research proposals.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within the unit where appropriate.
  • Innovatively transform the research practice within the school.
  • Apply for funding in (multidisciplinary) research projects.
Community Engagement:
  • Leading in community engagement activities/projects.
  • Register and lead school community engagement projects.
  • Development of projects to the benefit of community, health and nursing service delivery.
  • Work with related schools to promote inclusion and capability where possible.
Leadership:
  • Arrange and present workshops on research methodology as well as based on their expertise for various targeted groups, based on current developments within their field.
  • Serve on related research/ethics/integrity/management committees as directed by the research director.
  • To stay abreast with new developments in research methodology and related fields.
  • Lead students and support personnel in Undergraduate Teaching and Learning.
  • Support and empower with nursing/health clinical programmes.
  • Assist the research director (or entity colleagues) and/or take proactive actions to develop members of the entity.

Ad hoc:

  • Participate in School committees and external committees affiliated to the school.

Minimum requirements

  • A PhD in Nursing (NQF level 10) with specialisation in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science.
  • A degree (NQF level 8) in Nursing Education.
  • Accreditation with SANC.
  • Professionally registered with SANC as nurse educator and midwife.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the facilitation of teaching and learning and Postgraduate supervision – track record of master’s and PhD supervision.
  • A minimum of four (4) years’ clinical experience in the Nursing or other Health field.
  • A minimum of four (4) years’ higher education teaching experience.

ADDED ADVANTAGE

  • A 4 – Year degree (NQF level 8) in any medical and surgical nursing speciality.
  • Professional membership with a Professional Statutory Body.
