PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
An academic position where the incumbent will be expected to engage in T&L, Research and Community Engagement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teaching and Learning:
- Deliver high quality lectures and support to students.
- Set assessments and ensure students receive constructive feedback.
- Develop study material.
- Effectively and promptly assist students with queries and problems.
2. Research:
- Should work towards completing relevant next level postgraduate studies.
- Provide postgraduate supervision and study guidance (when needed).
- Write and publish research articles in accredited journals.
3. Community Engagement:
- Share professional expertise to enrich the community.
- Membership and/or involvement with relevant professional bodies.
4. Academic Administration:
- Keep class discipline and adhere to all the requirements for the administration of allocated modules as required by the NWU rules and policy.
Minimum requirements
- A Master’s degree (NQF level 9) in Language Practice, Translation/ Interpreting, Linguistics, African Languages (preferably Setswana or Sesotho).
- A minimum of 2 years’ teaching and learning experience at university level.
- Applicant should be willing to register for a PhD.
RECOMMENDATIONS / ADDED ADVANTAGES:
- Accreditation with the South African Translators' Institute (SATI) for interpreting, translation or editing.
KEY FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Lecturing experience at a tertiary institution.
- Excellent language and communication skills.
- Competence in an African Language (preference will be given to Setswana).
- Experience working as a language practitioner.
- Ability to use teaching and learning technologies and basic computer software (such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point).
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Student support experience (for example, SI facilitation, tutoring, peer mentoring).
REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
