NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (VC & MC) X2 FACULTY OF HUMANITIES SCHOOL OF SOCIAL SCIENCES VACANCY: DEPUTY DIRECTOR (3 YEAR FIXED-TERM POSITION) - PD00024 & PD00022 PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: As a senior representative of the School of Languages on the Vanderbiljpark and Mahikeng campus ,the purpose of this position is joint accountability for the day-to-day operations of the School on Mahikeng and Vanderbiljpark Campus. This includes managing the operational delivery, performance, and quality of the School’s operations on the VC and MC to achieve the Faculty of Humanities’ Teaching and Learning Plan and provide functional and academic leadership in respect of the objectives of the School on campus and in all modes of delivery.

Minimum requirements

  • A Masters or equivalent qualification in one of the School of Social Sciences ’ disciplines Permanently appointed as academic staff member in the School of Social Sciences
  • Membership of appropriate academic and professional networks
  • Professional registration where applicable
  • 3 years’ management experience
  • Significant experience in higher education
  • Experience in financial management and budgeting
  • A record of research and scholarship excellence
  • A track record of developing and maintaining relationships with research-funding and professional bodies
  • Excellent teaching and learning track record

Recommendation :

A PhD or equivalent qualification in one of the School of Social Sciences ’ disciplines

Other competency requirements:

·        Excellent people and communication skills

·        Thorough knowledge of the South Africa Higher Education system

·        Acceptable knowledge of student life-cycle administration and matters pertaining to academic standards and qualifications

  • Well-developed information and communication technology proficiency
  • Acceptable management accountancy proficiency
  • Acceptable contract development and management proficiency
  • Acceptable knowledge of approaches to student access and support and curriculum design and delivery within the applicable academic fields
 

REMUNERATION:

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
