NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (VANDERBIJLPARK CAMPUS) FACULTY OF EDUCATION SCHOOL OF COMMERCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES IN EDUCATION VACANCY: LECTURER /JUNIOR LECTURER FOR HISTORY FOR EDUCATION PEROMNES NUMBER: A8 PERMANENT POSITION POSITION NUMBER: V002740 Purpose of the position: To fill a vacant position in the History for Education subject group to engage in quality teaching and learning, research, and expand community engagement.
Job description
Teach History for Education, at undergraduate and post-graduate levels
• Mentoring of students projects at Honours level
• Ability to use online teaching and learning platforms
• Conducting scholarly research and publishing on key areas of History Education
• Contribute to programme, curriculum and study material development
• Community engagement on aspects related to History Education
Research:
• Publish articles and book chapters, as well as presenting papers at conferences
Community Engagement :
• Engage in community outreach/implementation of expertise
Administration :
• Performing general administration tasks at programme and module level
Minimum requirements
Lecturer minimum requirements
Suitable applicants must hold relevant qualifications in History for Education.
• MEd in History for Education OR
• MA (History) accompanied by a relevant education qualification such as PGCE or any other.
• MEd Curriculum Studies and any History Qualification that focuses on history education
• Accreditations with any education-related professional bodies is desirable
• Minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience in history education subject content at secondary school or tertiary institution level.
Junior Lecturer minimum requirements
Suitable applicants must hold relevant qualifications in History for Education.
• BEd Honours in History Education is essential, or a relevant BEd Honours Curriculum Studies accompanied by an undergraduate focusing on History Education.
• BA Hons History & PGCE or any other relevant education qualification is essential
• Accreditations with any education-related professional bodies is desirable
• Minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience in history education subject content at secondary school or tertiary institution level.
Recommended Competencies:
• Registering for and completing PhD - studies within a reasonable period – Lecturer
• Registering for and completing MEd - studies within a reasonable period – Junior Lecturer
• Commitment towards furthering own scholarship in research
• Excellent communication skills
• Analytical and problem-solving skills
• Effective time management
• Computer literacy
• Ability to teach large classes in both contact and distance modes of delivery
• Demonstration of language proficiency in order to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU
