Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Teaching of undergraduate & postgraduate students, research and supervision of postgraduate students; organisational & management tasks.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.       Teaching and learning:

  • Teaching of undergraduate & postgraduate students.

 

2.       Research and Innovation:

  • Conduction research and supervision of postgraduate students.

 

3.       Organisational and Management tasks:

  • Assist with management tasks.

Minimum requirements

  • A PhD (NQF level 10) in Algebra, Functional Analysis, Topology or Differential Geometry.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Proven research track record.

RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Membership with the South African Mathematics Society (SAMS) / American Mathematics Society (AMS)

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

  • Latex, Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
  • Outlook, Matlab.

BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

  • Work independently, but also as a team.
  • Have good people skills.
  • Professional and ethical behaviour.
  • Be able to act as a mentor for junior staff.
 

REMUNERATION:

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
