PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The purpose of this position is to teach Mathematics, to do research and be involved in Community Engagement in the School of Mathematics, Science and Technology Education, subject group Mathematics Education on the Vanderbijlpark Campus of the NWU.
1. Teaching and Learning:
- Teaching and Learning of Mathematics for Education students in the B.Ed and B.Ed Honours programmes.
2. Research and Innovation:
- Research in Mathematics Education; study guidance to Honours and master’s degree students.
3. Community Engagement:
- Involvement in community engagement as well as Practical teaching.
Minimum requirements
· A Bachelor’s degree (NQF level 7) with Mathematics on 3rd year level AND a PGCE with Mathematics as Didactics/Methodology OR a B.Ed qualification with Mathematics as a major.
· An honours’ degree (NQF level 8) with specialisation in Mathematics or Mathematics Education.
· A master’s degree (NQF level 9) with specialisation in Mathematics or Mathematics Education
· A minimum of three (3) years’ experience teaching Mathematics in the FET Phase.
RECOMMENDATION / ADDED ADVANTAGE:
· A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in teaching Mathematics or Mathematics Education at a tertiary institution.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
· Knowledge of teaching in different modes of delivery.
· Computer proficient – command of Word, Power point and Excel. Experience of Efundi will be beneficial.
· Language proficiency to function in a multilingual environment.
· Teaching experience at primary/secondary/tertiary level.
BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
· Good interpersonal relations.
· The ability to work with large groups of people.
· Ability to adhere to timelines and deadlines.
· Good communication skills (verbal, written and use of technology).
· Language skills in order to function in the various multilingual environments of the NWU.
· Ability to work independent, problem solving, systematically and innovative.
· Ability to function effectively under pressure.
REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
