PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Functional operation in Teaching and Learning, Research and Innovation, Community Engagement and leadership in the School of Nursing.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teaching and learning
§ Support with Teaching and Learning of research module in Masters and PhD research.
§ Participate in curriculum development, implementation and evaluation of undergraduate programmes.
§ Develop, register, coordinate and present Short Learning Programmes (SLPs).
§ At the teaching and learning director’s discretion, assist specific schools where the incumbent has the knowledge and expertise with both undergraduate and post-graduate modules where requested.
§ Coaching and mentoring in teaching and learning facilitate contact sessions, internal and external moderation and assessment.
2. Research and innovation:
§ Increased number of publications.
§ Conduct research and publish findings in peer reviewed national and international journals.
§ Supervise master’s and PhD students.
§ Conduct own Postgraduate studies.
§ Initiate and maintain national and international research networks.
§ Participate in the evaluation of ethics and research proposals.
§ Ensure effective research administration.
§ Collaborate with colleagues within the Unit where appropriate.
3. Community engagement:
§ Leading in community engagement activities/projects.
§ Register and lead school community engagement projects.
§ Development of projects to the benefit of community, health and nursing service delivery.
§ Work with related schools to promote inclusion and capability where possible.
§ Assist in any research activity or take proactive actions to develop members of the entity.
§ Serve on related research committees as directed by the research office.
4. Leadership:
§ To stay abreast with new developments in research methodology and related fields.
§ Lead students and support personnel in Undergraduate Teaching and Learning.
§ Support and empower with nursing/health clinical programmes.
5. Adhoc:
§ Participate in School committees and external committees affiliated to the school.
Minimum requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
SENIOR LECTURER:
§ A PhD (NQF level 10) in Nursing Science (Medical and Surgical).
§ A qualification in Nursing Education.
§ Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a nurse educator and midwife.
§ A track record of master’s and PhD supervision.
§ A minimum of 2 publication articles in peer reviewed journals.
§ A minimum of 3 years’ clinical experience.
§ A minimum of 3 years’ higher education teaching experience.
LECTURER:
§ A Master’s degree (NQF level 9) in Nursing (Medical and Surgical)
§ A qualification in Nursing Education.
§ Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a nurse educator and midwife.
§ A minimum of 1 publication article in peer reviewed journals.
§ A minimum of 3 years’ clinical experience.
§ A minimum of 2 years’ higher education teaching experience.
RECOMMENDATIONS / ADDED ADVANTAGES:
§ A qualification in any clinical specialisation (Medical and Surgical).

REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
