Job description

     PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

·          The teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

·          Postgraduates’ supervision.

·          Publish in accredited journals, conference proceedings, research mentorship, serve in research committees and bodies.

·          Sourcing of research funds and CE funds.

·          Introduction of 3rd stream income.

·          Course development and curriculum.

·          Assist in the management activities of the school and stakeholder relation.

·          Involve in community engagement activities.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.     Research and development

§   Publish in accredited journals, conference proceedings, research mentorship, serve in research committees and bodies.

2.     Supervision:

§   Postgraduates’ supervision.

3.     Teaching:

§   The teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

4.     Grant proposal:

§   Sourcing of research fund.

5.     3rd stream income:

§   Introduction of 3rd stream income.

6.     Curriculum development:

§   Course development and curriculum.

7.     Management and marketing:

                Assist in the management activities of the school and stakeholder relation

Minimum requirements

§   A master’s degree in Tourism Management (NQF level 9).

§   A minimum of 3 (three) years’ relevant work experience in lecturing.

      RECOMMENDATION / ADDED ADVANTAGE:

§   Studying towards a PhD degree in Tourism Management in an advanced stage (NQF level 10).

§   A minimum of 2 (two) years’ relevant work experience in the tourism industry.

      KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

§   Have an in-depth knowledge of tourism development.

§   Have a good understanding of tourism management.

§   Have a good understanding of tourism marketing.

§   Have a good knowledge of hospitality management.

§   Have skills in incorporating ICT in teaching & Learning and Research.

§   Have a good understanding of tourism at the international level and able to apply case studies.

§   Reasonable record of postgraduate (Honours/equivalent) supervision.

§   Ability to teach different fields of studies in tourism and hospitality.

§   Ability to run 3rd stream income or short courses and research as part of Community Engagement.

§   A proven commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to participate in student’s educational development and well-being.

§   Communicate effectively.

§   Ability to work well as an individual and in a team.

§   Have good planning and organising skills.

§   Good in time management.

§   Able to ensure a high level of professional and ethical conduct.

§   Have practical time-management skills.

 

      REMUNERATION:

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
