It is necessary to fill the position to ensure the fluent and effective operation of Dampad, Minjonet and De Wilgers dining halls. The cook will also be responsible for food preparation for functions.
Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Food preparation:
·       Preparation of food for dining halls and functions.
 
Quality and portion control:
·       Ensure quality and portion control during the food preparation and the serving process.
 
Occupational health and safety:
·       Adhere to health and safety procedures.
 
Communication
·       Good communication with colleagues, students, and clients.
 
Personal development:
·       Development of the own person and staying abreast of new technology.
 
Ad hoc task:
·       Perform ad hoc tasks.

FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS)
·       The ability to prepare bulk food in a large catering environment.
·       Knowledge of occupational health & safety procedures.
·       Knowledge of cleaning procedures of large equipment.
·       Knowledge regarding quality and portion control.
·       Knowledge of the handling and use of equipment in a food service unit.
·       The ability to read, understand and implement recipes.
·       The ability to lift heavy items.
·       The ability to read and write.
 
BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES
·       Willingness to work irregular hours.
·       Good communication skills and the ability to function under pressure.
·       The ability to work as part of a team.

Minimum requirements

·       Grade 10 (NQF level 2) or equivalent qualification is essential.
·       A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in bulk food preparations for a large catering environment.
 
REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
