Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Facilitation of teaching and learning of the undergraduate nursing students. The academic lecturer will be required to supervise, guide, support, mentor and teach theory and clinical skills to the nursing students. Key performance area includes facilitation of teaching and learning of undergraduate students, simulation lab activities, records management and professional development of nursing students.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teaching and learning:
- Facilitation of Teaching and Learning activities of the undergraduate programme.
- Employment of a variety of teaching and learning strategies
- Implementation of different assessment strategies to determine learner competencies.
- Plan and implement academic program according to university schedule.
- Coaching and mentoring of clinical support staff
- Support of students in both theory and clinical learning environments
- Participate in curriculum development, implementation and evaluation of undergraduate programmes.
- Support with Teaching and Learning of research module in Masters and PhD research.
2. Research and Innovation:
- Supervision of both undergraduate and postgraduate students
- Track record of publications
- Update and develop research methodology course work for masters.
- Support and lead the enhancement of publications for a developing research staff compliment.
- Innovatively transform the research practice within the nursing School.
- Participation in NuMiQ research activities
- Initiation and participation in research
- Conduct own Postgraduate studies.
3. Social responsibilities:
- Leading in community engagement and development of projects to the benefit of community health and nursing service delivery.
4. Leadership:
- Lead students and support personnel in Undergraduate Teaching and Learning
- Support and assist with nursing/health clinical programmes
- Participate in School committees and external committees affiliated to the School.
Minimum requirements
Senior Lecturer:
- A Master’s degree (NQF level 9) in Nursing Sciences (Medical or Surgical).
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- A minimum of 4 years’ clinical experience.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in nursing education
- Experience in postgraduate supervision.
- A minimum of two publications in academic journals.
Lecturer:
- A Master’s degree (NQF level 9) in Nursing Sciences (Medical or Surgical).
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- A minimum of 3 years’ clinical experience.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in nursing education.
RECOMMENDATION / ADDED ADVANTAGE:
· A Master of Nursing Sciences (NQF level 9) in Midwifery.

REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
