Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
 The research niche area, Technology-Enhanced Learning for Innovative Education and Training in South Africa (TELIT-SA), focuses on creating, using and evaluating technological artefacts across various disciplines in Commerce Education, specifically and Higher Ed in general.
 
The Director needs to strategically manage TELIT-SA to achieve the Faculty's goals regarding research in the scholarship of T&L, the marketing of our expertise, and promoting innovation in the creation of educational artefacts, use and Management of technology in T&L, in keeping with the Faculty's strategy.
 
To achieve the strategic goals of the Faculty and TELIT-SA, the niche area focuses on creating, using and evaluating learning technology artefacts across an array of disciplines in Commerce education and Higher Education (HE)
 
The three pillars of the niche area that needs to be managed are:
·         Technology Enhanced Learning in Commerce education
·         Innovative Education and Training in Commerce education
·         Theory and practice of learning technologies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
·         Planning
·         Research and artefact development
·         Research management
·         Leadership and Management
·         Marketing
·         Postgraduate supervision
·         Finances and Facilities management and administration
·         Liaison with other entities and institutional research management
·         Procurement of research funding 
·         Scholarship of Teaching and Learning 

Minimum requirements

 ·         Relevant PhD
·         Three years experience in Research development
·         Three years experience in Student Supervision
·         Three years experience in the field of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning with Technology
·         Funding - proven ability to acquire/manage external funds
·         Proven ability to write comprehensive high-level reports on TEL and Commerce Education
·         Five years experience in Higher education lecturing
·         Participant in any form of Scholarship in Teaching & Learning or Teaching Excellence programme
 
RECOMMENDATION:
·         Accreditation for NRF-rated researcher
·         Registration with a professional body where applicable
·         Teaching and Learning, instructional or technology enhance T7L research organisations or bodies
·         Three years experience in Management
 
 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
 
·         Leadership and vision to lead novice researchers, academic staff, students, and institutional committees.
·         Able to work independently and assist in building the TELIT-SA research entity into maturity.
·         Supervise master's and PhD students
·         Proven ability to interact with modern digital technologies, conduct research, and manage educational software tools.
·         Conversant in higher education pedagogy suited to the digital learning environment.
·         Proven record of research publications in the field of technology-enhanced Teaching and Learning.
·         Initiate and maintain national and international research networks
·         Ensure effective research administration
·         Collaborate with Faculties, Schools, Support Units and colleagues across the NWU spectrum to promote inclusion and develop capacity where needed.
·         Arrange and present workshops on research methodology, relevant software, and their application for various targeted groups based on current developments in the field.
·         Stay abreast with new developments in research methodology, relevant software and the related fields
·         Develop short learning programmes in technology-enhanced teaching, Learning and assessment in Commerce Education.
 
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
 
·         The candidate must demonstrate research capabilities and accredited research output combined with a proven interest in the TELIT-SA research niche area.
·         The candidate must be able to lead and manage researchers and PG students toward achieving the goals of TELIT-SA.
·         The candidate must be able to relate to people effectively.
·         The candidate must be able to participate in problem-solving strategies.
·         The candidate should be an excellent communicator and demonstrate the ability to debate and defend the vision and research results in high stake and senior-level executive meetings.
·         Proven critical thinking and analytical skills are essential for this position.
·         The candidate must be able to interact and work with diverse groups and opinions.

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
