PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer: Provide teaching and learning services as well as a research function.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching and Learning
- Teaching assigned classes according to the NWU teaching and learning strategies, ensuring required throughput and achieving student-lecturer evaluation scores in accordance with the university’s expectations.
Research
- Research outputs as to be discussed with programme leader and deputy director.
Community Engagement
- Actively contribute to community engagement projects as part of the School of Accounting Sciences.
Minimum requirements
- A Master of Commerce in Accountancy or equivalent (NQF level 9).
- Registration with SAICA as a CA(SA).
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the field as an Accountant.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in teaching Accountancy at a SAICA-accredited university.
In addition to the above,
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
- A PhD degree in Accountancy or equivalent (NQF level 10).
- A proven research track record with publications in accredited journals as required at the level of Associate Professor at the North-West University.
RECOMMENDATIONS
- Postgraduate supervision experience in the field of Accountancy.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- A working knowledge of essential technical competencies required in the field of accountancy including accounting, auditing, management accounting, financial management and taxation.
- Knowledge of working with students, handling large classes, setting of assessments.
- Knowledge of the process of research and an eagerness to conduct research.
- Interest in community service.
- Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office package (Excel, PowerPoint and Word).
- Knowledge of Accounting-related software packages.
- Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the multilingual environment of the NWU.

REMUNERATION
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
