PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The main purpose of this position is to support and assist the 3 x FAEs (Functional Area Experts) – TAX, GL & COA and KIM on a shared basis and agreed to time allocation. KPA’s of sub-division staff members will be reviewed to mitigate the area specific knowledge risk within GRT.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
TAX
· Month-end procedures.
· VAT and Turnover Reconciliations (monthly).
· New accounts – determine correct applicable Vat rate.
· Data integrity – corrections of Vat-related errors on transaction
· Other ad hoc assignments.
GL & COA (General Ledger & Chart of Accounts)
· Maintenance of GL (10%).
Examples – but not limited to:
o Data integrity – corrections on wrong GL-related objects.
o Follow up on pending transactions.
o Closing of accounts – journals.
o GL Reviewer approvals (assigned OU codes).
· Maintenance of COA (10%)
Examples – but not limited to:
o Verification of COA and COLL format before uploading.
o Closing of accounts – system.
o Upkeep of ERP User groups on Outlook.
o Updating Account Managers and Fiscal Officers.
o Assist with creating of new accounts.
· Ad hoc
Examples – but not limited to:
o Assistance with inquiries, after training period.
o Assistance with annual R&D survey.
KIM (Kuali Identification Management)
· KFS Securities (access control)
Examples – but not limited to:
o Registration of new KFS Users and System Administrators.
o Assigning of Delegates.
o Assistance with approval hierarchy, authorisation levels (financial only), workflow changes and routing amendments.
o Assistance with routing of documents with ‘Exception’ or ‘Not final’ statuses.

o Assistance with inquiries, after training period
Compliance
· Records Archives and Museums (RAM) Management.
· Personal Information and Privacy Act (POPIA).
Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)
· Mandatory compliance
Examples – but not limited to:
o Participate in fire evacuation drills and bomb threats – report at central assembly point for rollcalls.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
· Computer literacy (MS Office as well as e-mail (Outlook)).
· Information systems – level III – application skills eg. VLOOKUP, PIVOT TABLES, GRAPHS.
· Up to date knowledge regarding relevant/applicable requirements that must be adhered to and complied with – whether by law, department/sector (DHET) rules and regulations, standards (IFRS), institution policies (NWU), etc.
· Ability to multi-task and still function effectively under pressure - ensuring accurate work at all times.
· Excellent time management, organisational skills, as well as the ability to prioritise.
· Sufficient knowledge of financial systems and relevant experience.
· Attention to detail is key.
· English proficient – write and speak.

Minimum requirements
· A B. Com degree (NQF level 7) in Accounting 3.
· A minimum of two (2) years’ knowledge on Financial Systems experience.
· A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the preparation of reconciliations – Tax.
ADDED ADVANTAGES:
· A B. Com honors degree in Accounting (NQF Level 8) (CTA).
· An advanced level 3 Certificate in Information system.
· Membership with the South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA).
· A minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in a university environment.
· A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in articles/internship at audit firm.
REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
