NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (VANDERBIJLPARK CAMPUS) FACULTY/ DIVISION: FACULTY OF EDUCATION: SCHOOL OF PROFESSIONAL STUDIES IN EDUCATION POSITION NUMBER: V000061 VACANCY: ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR PEROMNES GRADE: A6 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION  The successful incumbent will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students in Education Management and Leadership modules, as well as supervising ERTP, Master and PhD students. He/she will have to be actively involved in research and community engagement activities and participate in academic leadership to make an important contribution to the faculty’s core business.

Y RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Research

o   Scholarly guidance, innovation, and initiation regarding research in Education Management and Leadership. Active involvement in research entity. Initiate research projects.

·        Teaching

o   Teaching modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in higher education and supervising ERTP as well as PhD and MEd-students in the field of Education Management and Leadership. Participate in developing module content.

·        Community engagement

o   Involvement and leading service delivery programmes

·        Academic leadership

o   Participate in Mentorship programmes.

o   Attend meetings and be involved in committee work

 

 research and supervision - Research and postgraduate supervision.

WIL/Supervision - Work-integrated learning

Administrative and management – Administrative and management tasks in subject-related as well as Faculty and university-level

  

 

 

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

·        PhD in Educational Management and Leadership

·        5 years’ experience of previous employment in the field of Management and Leadership at higher education level - at least at the level of senior lecturer.

·        Approved and consistent accredited publications over the past 5 years.

·        Completed supervision of at least two master’s and one doctoral student.

·        Have a proven record of presenting/attending relevant national and international conferences.

·        Involvement in activities at community level (Service delivery to the wider higher education environment).

 

ADDED ADVANTAGE AND PREFERENCES

·        Leader of and/or involvement in funded research projects.

·        Proven national network.

·        Experience as mentor.

·        Experience in face to face as well as online teaching mode.

 

FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS)

·        Knowledge of teaching in different modes of delivery (recommended).

·        Language proficiency to function in a multilingual environment.

·        Knowledge and skills in training pre-service teachers to teach in multilingual environments (recommended).

·        Computer proficient – command of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS Teams for online meetings/classes and electronic modes of communication with students and within the University e.g. eFundi

·        Familiarity with the Google platforms (Drive, Forms, Slides and Docs).

·        Good interpersonal relations

·        The ability to work with large and diverse groups of people.

·        Ability to adhere to timelines and deadlines.

·        Good communication skills (verbal, written and use of technology).

·        Language skills to function in the various multilingual environments of the NWU.

·        Ability to function effectively under pressure.

Ability to solve challenges critically and creatively.

 The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
